I’ve found my new food obsession:
Vega offered to send me one of their new Shake & Go smoothies a while back. Of course I chose the chocolate flavor. Honestly, I’ve been sitting on this one a little too long, mostly because I’m always skeptical of protein powder. They never seem to be tasty, or have some weird sweetener, or just aren’t “right”. But I really like everything about this one.

Besides impressive nutritional stats, it has no dairy, no soy, no artificial sweetener, no stevia–basically the ingredients are as clean(and green) as can be.
But, like I said, I’m always wary of how they taste. And part of me was expecting this to turn out more like brown spinach and alfalfa than a green chocolatey mix. Hesitantly, I mixed it with soy yogurt…
Winner, winner, pea protein dinner. This was a knock out of the park for me. It tasted chocolaty–not green. And the slight hint of maca added a nice roundness to the flavor. Like I said, I was also really pleased with the ingredient list. And I’m a fickler for things like that. I could see myself buying this again and again in the future.
Moving on to dinner, that was one thing that sort of decided itself. You see, I realized I was running low on bacon fat. And there’s only one real way to get that.
OK. Few. We have bacon fat again. And to match that smokiness of bacon, I made home fries in the same pan using a new spice blend. I can’t say what was in it, because it’s part of a cookbook review I’m doing for Squeaky Gourmet.
3 spices plus salt I definitely wouldn’t have thought to combine, but that came out wonderful. The smokiness of them matched the flavor from the fat and gave something very yummy.
Then again, everything is better with bacon.
What’s your latest food find?
PS. Tomorrow night I’ll draw the winner for the panormous giveaway.

Peach salsa from Trader Joe’s. Although it’s not spicy, you can definitely taste the smokiness. I really like it! Popped potato chips is another fairly recent find. I like those as well.

cheap, healthy, and vegan; and those are 3 of my favorite words(besides bacon fat).”

I’ve known about it for a while now, but I just recently tried Angela’s (www.ohsheglows.com) vegan overnight oats and they’re so creamy it’s to die for! (mind the cliché term)
Hunt’s and Heinz ketchup (I don’t eat ketchup unless I make it and that’s almost never) now that they’re made with sugar instead of HFCS weren’t bad either!

I just found soy noodles and I’m obsessed with them. They serve as a substitute for pasta! No, I’m not low carbing or looking for extra protein – but for 20 cals a serving, they are unreal and delicious!

I’m trying my best to imagine how delicious those home fries and bacon tastes, I can almost taste the salty succulence. That looks outstanding!
My latest great food find was easily Trader Joe’s PA &J (peanuts and almonds coated in jam).

I’ve heard good things about Vega. I really want to try it, but I’ll have to wait on that because my latest food find is also protein powder. SunWarrior, yum!!! I am so pleasantly surprised. It is a little stevia-y, but once you get over that it’s pretty darn good. I’m also loving Amazing Grass energy powder lately.
Congrats on OpenSky, how exciting! I’m looking forward to some good deals.
I got my Sun Warrior through Gina’s (the fitnessista) promo.

Lately I have been on a Jay Robb protein kick. My husband decided to switch from his cheapy Myoplex protein (after reading a pretty bad article about then in Consumer Reports) to the Jay Robb whey protein and we both like it a lot. It is really light and tasty. I have had the Jay Robb egg white protein before but I wasn’t as crazy about it. I have seen the Vega Protein around so I will give that one a try next! Thanks Evan!
