Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
There have been/will be still more changes since moving to the new host. A lot of them are behind the scene stuff but things you will notice will be the new design. Thank you for all the compliments but I assure you this is not it(this is me playing around until we start working on it). I’ll announce when it’s complete in a big way(maybe a giveaway?!). Also, I’m changing the Food For Thought page. Originally, it was sort of meant to be a “Best Of” sort of thing. But now I think I’ll reserve it for theme posts, like posts on health, specialty foods, “Picture It” segments and now–the newest addition–”Let’s Make A Deal” segments.

Let’s Make A Deal
What is Let’s Make A Deal? Besides an excellent old television game show(and now with a remake I refuse to acknowledge because it can’t hold a candle to the original), Let’s Make A Deal posts will focus on money saving deals I stumble upon. Today’s topic: chocolate.
I. Love. Chocolate. As I’m sure we’re all aware. And as far as plain, old dark chocolate goes, this Endangered Species bar is my favorite. It’s smooth; it’s deep; buying it saves the rainforest. What’s not to love? Even on sale, this costs $16 a pound. And, yes, with my chocolate addiction it’s perfectly reasonable to think of it on the pound-level. So, instead, I’ve been looking in interesting places for my chocolate fix.
Yesterday, perusing the baking chocolate, I came across this Belgian brand for 7.99 a pound. It had all the same good ingredients as expensive dark chocolate bars, a firm texture and a rich smell. But how did it taste?
Definitely chocolatey. Definitely dark. The texture was chunky and rich. It didn’t quite blow me away like a good chocolate bar but it was a strong contender.
This was the other option at the Specialty section I’d been eating up until now. It’s French, and was on sale for 13.99/lb, only marginally cheaper than Endangered Species.
So was it anything special? It was definitely good–better than the Belgian. But only marginally. Overall it was not worth twice the price; the French were just being greedy.
So what was the takeaway? I’ll probably be buying the Belgian from now on, with an occasional splurge on a good dark chocolate bar. It’s good to be reminded that there’s options outside of the name brands. And at $7.99/lb that’s saving half the price! We have definitely made a deal.
On tap for breakfast: chocolate detox. After an awful night’s sleep, I’ve spent my morning with coffee and wanting to take a nap. Who needs chocolate when they have a 2% Fage and oatmeal with french toast hazelnut butter?
If you’re wondering if it’s any good, just say it with me. “French toast hazelnut butter”. Yep, it’s love.
What’s the last deal you found? And/or what might you want to see in a Let’s Make A Deal post in the future? Don’t worry; from the person who’s had 30+ nut butters, I’m sure there’ll be some posts on that subject.

Hi Evan! I love the Alicia Silverstone quote you left on my blog
Chocolate remedies everything, truly. Yum.

Bah, love it! The last chocolate deal I found was on Scharffen-Berger dark chocolate baking chunks…16 oz bag for 1.99…awesome!

Thankfully, right now, I still have some samples from Newmans Own Organics & Endangered Species to chomp on, but I’m not looking forward having to buy my own chocolate again. Glad you found a good deal that suits you!

Have you ever tried the Baker chocolate squares? They’re super cheap, come preportioned (useless for me, since i have no self control with dark chocolate and eat three blocks anyway), and taste just as good as some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had!! The texture is a little more crumbly than the good stuff, but for the price and taste, I can deal. Endangered Species is one of my favorites too…at least the price tag helps save the environment though, right?

I can’t wait for your lets make a deal on nut butters, considering they can range from $5-$40!

I’ve never gotten the bulk chocolate from WF but you’re right, it looks like a way better deal. I usually get green and black 70%, but will have to try this. I’m up for deals on pretty much anything besides tomatoes, pickles, olives, ham, and american cheese (the only foods I hate!).

1st paragraph..thanks for the updates and I figured you would be tweaking for quite some time
All blog stuff requires way more effort and time than one really should be putting into it…it’s never “right” the 1st time. Or the 7th. If your luck is like mine! ha!
french toast hazelnut butter—yeah, i’ll take that!!!!
the WFs choc finds. there are times to look for deals and times to say, well, i have this x product that i love and there is just no way around it and so it’s a splurge and you do it. For me that would be veganaise. It is twice the price of any other mayo oz for oz on the market but i have to have it
so i buy it
the Deal section and Food for Thought…LOVE That. Espi the deals. I am so sick of going to blogs where ppl spend a ridic amt of money on ingredients. Yes, warranted at times, but not usually and i love a good deal!
